NL Final Vote: My Takes

*Blows off dust from journal *
We’ll I have a few quick minutes to write a up a new entry while I’m munching on my lunch here at my day job.
After the first 24 hours of online voting for the final roster spot, my worst fears have started to turn into reality. I have a huge dislike for San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young. Keeping is clean for everybody, I’ll refer to him as a jerk, but I have many better choice words that I like to refer to him as. I will not deny the fact that he’s a good pitcher, because he is, it’s the way he holds himself on the field, and how “jerk like” some of his actions are.
I can think of two specific instances where his actions have totally rubbed me the wrong way towards him. I didn’t have much of a chance to watch him much when he was called up with the Rangers a few seasons back, because as a Cubs fan, I watch predominately National League games. The first strike against him was against the Cubs last season, I think, where he faked a tag at first base to force the Cubs starting pitcher slide back into first base. I don’t remember who the starter was off hand, but I think it might have been Zambrano. I know for a fact it was an important starter. As a manager you want to avoid having one of your starting pitchers sliding back into the bag especially early in the season. The First Base Coach as the time, Gary “Sarge” Matthews Sr., exchanged some words with the Padres pitcher which turned into a fairly heated discussion.
The second instance was this season after Young hit Cubs superstar Derrek Lee on the wrist with a pitch. After a stare down, DLee took off for first base. DLee then snapped around and you can see him say “What?!” on the replays. Lee then took a swing at Young, which is the exact opposite of Lee’s usual demeanor. Lee is one of the most laid back players in the league. Word through the Rumor Mill is that Young said something to extent of about how Lee’s daughter could have even seen that pitch coming, or getting out of the way. As you folks probably know Derrek Lee co-founded with Boston Celtics owner, an organization to help find a cure for Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, which Lee’s young daughter suffers from as she lost vision in one of her eyes.
As a Cubs fan of course I’d love to see Big Z get the nod as the last pitcher, but I’d be honestly happy with any of the other candidates as it’s not Chris Young, even though he’s probably the best pitcher out of the five.
