Man, I’ve had this thing written up for about 5 days now, I’m just know getting it published. How horrible is that? I had an extremely busy weekend, getting some shopping done, working and starting on some home projects, playing volleyball, and other various things. I wanted to get this out by Opening Day, and I basically have minus the one game played last night. I also wanted to get out my Carlos Zambrano prediction before it became a truth most likely this week or possibly next. Enjoy my predictions, and give me your thoughts.

I saw an article over on yahoo with some player related predictions, so I thought I’d throw my own predictions in the mix. You can view the article here. The article also included their predictions for the playoffs and The World Series. I’m going to wait for till after the first week of the season to give my full predications on that.

The darkhorse is a player who puts up the stats to be considered for the award but likely their team will take them out of the real running. Take a few years ago when Derrek Lee had his career year. He didn’t win the MVP because the Cubs did not make the playoffs, and for that reason only. I tried to stray away from some of the experts choices, just so I’m not mimicking their answers, but I’m also putting a lot of my own opinions in the matter. Some of the answers will be followed up with my reasoning below.

AL MVP Travis Hafner - Cleveland Indians
Darkhorse Jermaine Dye - Chicago White Sox
NL MVP Albert Pujols – St. Louis Cardinals
Darkhorse Derrek Lee – Chicago Cubs
AL Cy Young Johan Santana – Minnesota Twins
Darkhorse John Lackey – Los Angeles Angels
NL Cy Young Carlos Zambrano – Chicago Cubs
Darkhorse Ben Sheets – Milwaukee Brewers
AL Rookie of the Year Alex Gordon – Kansas City Royals
Darkhorse Akinori Iwamura - Tampa Bay Devil Rays
NL Rookie of the Year Kevin Kouzmanoff – San Diego Padres
Darkhorse Homer Bailey – Cincinnati Reds
AL home run leader David Ortiz – Boston Red Sox
Darkhorse Travis Hafner – Cleveland Indians
NL home run leader Albert Pujols – St. Louis Cardinals
Darkhorse Derrek Lee – Chicago Cubs
AL batting champion Ichiro Suzuki – Seattle Mariners
Darkhorse Jermaine Dye – Chicago White Sox
NL batting champion Albert Pujols – St. Louis Cardinals
Darkhorse Matt Holiday – Colorado Rockies
AL MVP-in-waiting Alex Gordan – Kansas City Royals
NL MVP-in-waiting Chase Utley – Philadelphia Phillies
AL Cy Young-in-waiting Fransico Liriano – Minnesota Twins
NL Cy Young-in-waiting Anibal Sanchez – Florida Marlins
AL comeback player Rich Harden – Oakland A’s
NL comeback player Derrek Lee – Chicago Cubs
AL breakout hitter Greg Norton – Tampa Bay Devil Rays
NL breakout hitter Matt Murton – Chicago Cubs
AL breakout pitcher Erik Bedard – Baltimore Orioles
NL breakout pitcher Adam Wainwright – St. Louis Cardinals
First manager fired Mike Hargrove – Seattle Mariners
First GM fired Jim Bowden – Washington Nationals
Clemens-O-Meter He’ll be back in July
Matsuzaka wins 13
Howard home runs 41
Adam Dunn strikeouts 180
Lou Piniella ejections 5
Date Bonds hits 756 Never
Biggest free-agent contract Carlos Zambrano 5 Years $100 Million

NL Batting Champion Darkhorse: Matt Holiday. I chose Holiday because he really is a good hitter. He hits for average and power. He batted in the .320’s last season, and he’s still a really young player. I think it’s feasible that he could get into the .340’s with no problem. AL Breakout Hitter: Greg Norton. If he gets consistent at-bats either while DH’ing or playing first base, he could put together a really good year. He did some good damage with the small amount of at bats he did have. AL MVP: Travis Hafner. He finally gets the respect that he deserves. He also will finally be voted into an All-Star game as well.

Good predicitions! Good, fun read. Greg Norton is out 4-6 weeks and will platoon so a breakout season may not be in his cards.

You know, I’ve got a really good knack at doing stuff like that. It’s a good thing I’m not getting paid to make predictions, but hey, you can be wrong everyday as a weather man and still have a job…right?….. RIGHT???? :)

My bad, I didn’t mean to make it sound sarcastic. I really do like your predictions. I was just letting you know what happened to Greg Norton. My bad brother!

Haha, absolutely no harm taken. I was meaning it as a joke. I always have a knack of picking somebody that turns out hurt most of the season. Like a few years back, I picked Jason Dubois to win the Rookie of the Year, and he did squat, and was eventually demoted after an extremely slow start. I think I need to change my NL Comeback player of the year to Ben Sheets. He made short work out of Dodgers today, holy smokes.
